Mary and Martha Part 7
Luke 10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Barnes commentary:
Thou art careful - Thou art anxious.
Troubled - Disturbed, distracted, very solicitous.
Solicitous -
1 : manifesting or expressing solicitude
2 : full of concern or fears : apprehensive
3 : meticulously careful
4 : full of desire : eager
Martha was frustrated with Mary her sister, and complained to Jesus. Jesus cared enough to address Martha’s problems, not just her situation.
He pointed out her problems, that she was careful, and troubled. There are many things that can distract us from what is really important.
¨ What are we being, "careful and troubled", about?
¨ What makes us anxious, disturbed, distracted?
It is normal to be emotional. We ARE human! But God wants us to talk to Him and let Him help us deal with life. He loves us and cares.
Joh 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
1Pe 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Psa 29:11 The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.
Psa 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
